Welcome to Raven's Beak Design™
Raven’s Beak Design™ is a fiber arts studio located in Grand Marais, Minnesota.
On these pages you will find original designs you can buy in kit or pattern form and as one-of-a-kind finished products. You will also find yarns, rovings, needles & notions, buttons, patterns, books, magazines, beads and punch needle supplies. I specialize in natural fibers, however on my SALE pages you may find some acrylic blends as well as other items that are “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow” – once these are sold they will not be restocked. Each month I will focus on a certain yarn or yarn combination. You will be able to purchase these yarns, which will come with free patterns or suggestions for use. If you’re the kind of person who likes to make, wear and have things that cannot be found in the usual stores (including yarn shops) I think you’ll like this site. If you like knowing you will have support throughout your creation of a project, this is the place for you. Think of it as the knitting circle that’s available to you 24 hours a day.
I am a designer who loves to teach. If you are a fiber enthusiast looking to develop your skills, check out my Classes & Retreats page. Knitting, crocheting, felting, beading and miniature punchneedle embroidery are a few of the classes you might find. My shop is located in a beautiful part of the United States. Grand Marais is located on Lake Superior in the lap of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Your fiber retreat can include a good infusion of natural beauty: hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking; skiing, snowshoeing, dogsledding – it is all here for you whether you are a buff and hearty fitness freak or one who likes a more low impact approach to your outdoor fun.
Looking for a place to stay in the area? Check out the “Raven’s Nest Rental” page. At this writing the cabin is currently rented until July 2008, but you can check it out for future vacation or retreat plans.
More than anything, I hope to provide you with a source of inspiration for your work in fiber and a retreat from the stresses of your everyday life.

Design Gallery: You will find original designs in 3 forms: kits, patterns and as one-of-a-kind or limited production finished products. Kits include hats, scarves, felted purses and “Build Your Skills” graduated kits designed to help you develop your skill as a knitter. Patterns are available for a limited number of designs. Finished products are either one-of-a-kind or limited in number. All finished products are hand-made here in Grand Marais.
Closeout Sale: Items on these pages are "here today, gone tomorrow" , once sold I will not restock them. There are closeout yarns, needles & notions, books & magazines, & other items such as punchneedle embroidery supplies & beads. I will restock these pages frequently, so check often for changes. Alerts for my eBay sales are found on these pages.
Raven's Nest Rental: Looking for a place to stay in Grand Marais? We can provide you with a home away from home, a cozy cottage complete with kitchen a large living/dining area and a bedroom suite. Experience life as a "local" in your own home. (Currently rented, but please keep checking.)
Classes & Retreats: I love to teach and would enjoy creating a retreat for you or a group, scheduled around your visit to Grand Marais. Add knitting by the fire in the winter to your apres ski agenda (my place or yours). Treat yourself to learning a new knitting skill as part of your summer vacation in the area. Contact me for arrangements.

I have just started a page on etsy as well for both kits and finished product. This site does not currently have a shopping cart. Please contact me with any request for items not available on etsy or eBay, and I will get back to you as soon as possible via e-mail or phone, your choice.

Special Passions: If I have any specialty it is hand-painted yarns, including Cherry Tree Hill and Mountain Colors. I also specialize in putting yarns together in combinations that enhance the visual and tactile qualities of each yarn. I select or create patterns that suit yarn choices. If you love to knit but feel unsure about making appropriate color or yarn choices I can help!
